We are a vibrant community of scholars, professionals, institutions, and interested persons from across the globe who share an interest in advancing the study and understanding of Central Eurasia. As a member of CESS, you are a part of a global Central Eurasian studies community which fosters communication and the cultivation of scholarship in the field. Present at CESS conferences

Members enjoy greater engagement with our conferences through the option to propose and, if accepted, present panels and papers. Members also receive significant discounts on our conference registration fees.

Subscribe to top journals at a reduced price

In 2024, Central Asian Survey is available to CESS members at a discounted rate. Members can choose online only access for just $20 for the year or elect to receive print copies + online access for $40. Members can add a subscription to Central Asian Survey when taking out or renewing their CESS membership.

The 2024 hard copy subscription price for Central Asian Affairs has been frozen again at $71 for CESS members, a 30% discount on the cost price. Members can add a subscription to Central Asian Affairs when taking out or renewing their CESS membership.

CESS members now also have the option to subscribe to the hard copy of Europe-Asia Studies with a 90% discount! In 2024, subscriptions cost $91 and are taken out directly with the publisher.

Shape CESS’ goals and activities

As a member, you can participate in the running of CESS by joining a committee and electing new representatives for the roles of Board Member and President each year. Why not consider running for election yourself?

Publish your work on the CESS Blog

The CESS Blog is an online communication venue for scholarship about the region, featuring guest field research reports, monthly columns, and photo essays. CESS members are encouraged to make proposals to the blog and may do so by writing to the Editor. Visit the blog for more guidelines on proposals.

Feature in the CESS Member Directory

Members are listed in CESS’ searchable, open access member directory where they can modify their entries to list a regional focus, disciplinary approach, and publications or website.

Membership dues

To ensure that CESS remains an open and accessible society for all, membership pricing reflects income, as per the table below.

CESS membership and conference registration fees are non-refundable. Membership fees are always for the calendar year from January 1 to December 31, regardless of the date you join during the year. You are welcome to join at any point during the year up until our Annual Conference.

No proof of income or status is necessary when completing your membership form.

How to join

Existing members: All existing members are invoiced in January with details of how to renew your membership for the year ahead. If you did not receive your invoice, please contact the CESS membership administrator. Pay your membership dues by either credit/debit card or check (must be in USD).

New members: If you are joining CESS for the first time, please complete the New Member Application form by clicking on the blue button below. If your membership has lapsed and you wish to rejoin, please contact the CESS membership administrator.

 

CESS is a not for profit organization pursuant to section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and membership contributions are deductible for federal income tax purposes. CESS’ tax identification number (EIN) is 04-3539665.
